I received a fabulous swap this month from Devon (@devondomanski). This was Devon’s first swap and she knocked it out of the park! It was seriously one of my favorite swap packages yet. With a theme like ‘sweet and salty snacks’, how could I not love it?!

The package included:

Have you ever had the tofu avocado salad at Bread and Sons? It’s delicious. I was actually quite grumpy the day I tried it. I stopped in for lunch with a hankering for their delicious vegan pizza but they didn’t have any. They said they were too busy to make more because it takes longer than their other pizzas. So, I begrudgingly picked up a salad for lunch. It’s pretty hard to be impressed with a salad when you went in expecting pizza, but this salad was that good!

I am so excited to share this recipe with you! It is our current favorite lunch. It’s so yummy it tastes like it must be junk food but it’s actually really healthy.  It’s so good that I’ve added it to the menu of my fictional restaurant (I’m sure I’m not the only one who does that!).

The recipe involves chicken flavored baked tofu, coconut bacon, a rich cashew based Caesar dressing with some romaine lettuce in a whole wheat wrap. Yum!

I hesitated posting this because it’s almost too simple to be a recipe. However, despite it’s simplicity, we’ve been absolutely obsessed with this soup all winter long - having it at least once a week. So I thought I would share it in case you were also looking for a simple, warm, comforting recipe that can be thrown together in minutes.

Oh man this oatmeal is tasty! If you're bored of your regular oatmeal routine and looking to kick it up a notch, this recipe is for you!

I had some leftover coconut milk in the fridge to use up (what a good problem to have!) and some super ripe bananas so I put them together for a tropical inspired oatmeal. It combines the rich, buttery taste of full fat coconut milk with the caramelized taste of ooey gooey banana slices. What’s not to love!

After taking a break in January, the vegan food swap was back for February!

I received a lovely package this month from fellow Ottawa blogger Jodi who blogs at Simply Fresh.

I had tipped her off to the fact that I love trying new ethnic foods and she did not disappoint!

I sure hope that your holiday detoxes are complete and your diet ambitions have tapered off, because I have incredibly rich and delicious recipe for you today that you are not going to be able to resist!

You’ve likely already heard some buzz about the vegan dinner options at Mellos in the Market (290 Dalhousie Street). First, David stumbled upon their surprising vegan creations and then some of the NCVA veterans went to check it out and did a full review.

Sorry for the embarrassingly long hiatus!

After working on some by-elections in November, I came down with bronchitis and then the flu. But now I am finally feeling better!

I needed a gift for a holiday gift swap last week. Someone suggested that we try to do a ‘clutter-free’ swap - so no knick knacks that will just collect dust and eventually end up in the trash. I thought this was a great idea and my mind went right to food!

In my mind, edible gifts are the ultimate ‘green’ gift.

I received a great swap package from a fellow Ottawa vegan this month. Kelly from Three and a Half Vegans sent me a tin full of delicious homemade goodies!

In the adorable snowman tin there was oat cookies, hazelnut shortbread, lemon-kissed blondie bites and maple coconut fudge.
